Who is eligible for Military Funeral Honors?
Answer: Deceased Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Members, Military Retirees, and Veteran’s who served at least one term of enlistment and separated under honorable conditions are eligible for Military Funeral Honors. A DD Form 214 or other documentation is used to verify eligibility.

Are there Veteran’s not eligible for Military Funeral Honors?
Answer: Yes, Veterans discharged under less than honorable conditions or convicted of a capital offense and sentenced to life imprisonment or death.

How do I request Military Funeral Honors and how much will it cost me?
Answer: Request military funeral honors through your Funeral Director. Honors are provided at no cost.

How do I get a flag for the casket and how much will it cost me?
Answer: Request a flag through your Funeral Director. Flags are provided at no cost.

What Honors are provided?
Answer: Veterans normally receive a Three-Volley Rifle Salute, Taps, Flag Folding and Presentation. Active Duty members and Military Retirees receive additional honors.

What if we don’t want Taps?
Answer: It is the family's option and may be deleted from the ceremony at the family's request.

What do they say when they present the flag?
Answer: It varies by Branch of Service but is similar to this:

This flag is presented on behalf of a grateful nation, as a token of our appreciation for the honorable and faithful service rendered by your loved one.

Whom Provides Military Funeral Honors?
Answer: The family determines who presents the flag and has a choice of Uniformed Service members or Veteran’s Service Organization members. Honors for Veterans are provided by the Missouri National Guard, and/or Veteran’s Service Organizations, and/or the Active Component. Honors for Active Duty members and Military Retirees are provided by the Active Component.

How is the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program funded?
Answer: We receive approximately 65% of our funding from the State of Missouri through the Missouri National Guard Trust Fund and approximately 35% from the Federal Government through the Missouri National Guard.
